The Outreach & Membership Specialist plays a hands-on role in strengthening relationships with small business owners in Little Village and expanding engagement with the Chamber’s programs and membership offerings. This bilingual position (Spanish/English) focuses on direct outreach, membership recruitment and retention, program promotion, and data collection.

This is a highly field-based role that requires extensive time spent walking the Little Village commercial corridor, visiting businesses in person, and representing the Chamber in the community. The Specialist serves as a trusted, on-the-ground connector between the Chamber and the local business community and works closely with internal teams to ensure businesses are informed, supported, and engaged.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Community Engagement

  • Conduct regular in-person outreach to small businesses throughout the Little Village commercial corridor.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with business owners through site visits, follow-ups, and consistent community presence.
  • Represent the Chamber at community events, meetings, resource fairs, and networking events.

 

Membership Management

  • Manage the full membership lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, renewals, and retention.
  • Promote Chamber membership benefits, including free and paid membership programs.
  • Maintain accurate membership records and track engagement using internal databases or CRM tools.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for member inquiries and ensure timely follow-up and support.

Program Promotion & Support

  • Promote Chamber programs such as De La Mano Business Advising, workshops, grants, and other business resources.
  • Support outreach campaigns through in-person engagement and digital efforts (e.g., social media content, email outreach).
  • Collect feedback from businesses and members to inform program and service improvements.

Data Collection & Reporting

  • Gather and maintain data on businesses in the corridor, including openings, closures, vacancies, and business needs.
  • Track outreach and membership metrics and contribute to internal reports for leadership and funders.

Collaboration & Events

  • Collaborate with Membership, Events, and Programming teams to support Chamber initiatives.
  • Assist with planning, staffing, and executing events and programs.
  • Support volunteer coordination as needed for outreach activities and events.

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Attend occasional evening and weekend events based on community and business needs.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • This role is primarily field-based and requires frequent walking throughout the Little Village commercial corridor.
  • Ability to walk several miles per day and stand for extended periods while conducting outreach, attending events, and visiting businesses.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry outreach or event materials (up to approximately 25 lbs.) as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English (written and verbal).
  • 3–6 years of experience in community outreach, membership engagement, customer relations, or nonprofit/community development work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging directly with small business owners.
  • Experience with membership recruitment, customer service, or account management preferred.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and report data accurately.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently while collaborating with a team.
  • Familiarity with Little Village or similar communities strongly preferred.
