Little Village Chamber of Commerce

FEBRUARY: 1st Cash Flash in Little Village
In February, the City of Chicago’s Innovation Delivery Team contacted the Little Village Chamber of Commerce to host its 1st Cash Flash in Little Village. On Sat, 2/23/13 we helped impact Libreria Giron’s bottom line by driving individuals to support this local business by meeting and shopping at a particular time. We exceeded our sales goals thanks to the cash purchases made by the 16 individuals that attended the event. Thank you, pioneer business Libreria Giron, for participating in setting the tone for our local business community!

MARCH: 2013 Economic Outlook & Beyond Business Roundtable Session
In March, we gathered 25+ business members at historic Taquerias Atotonilco where State Farm and Merrill Lynch walked us through our economic climate and offered extensive feedback on how to better plan, prepare and execute throughout the year. The Little Village Chamber of Commerce garnered 3 new business members at this session. Look out for our October Roundtable Session to be held at La Justicia Restaurant, www.littlevillagechamber.org

APRIL: Advantage Chevrolet’s Ultimate Networking Mixer
Why host a networking mixer in Hodgkins, you might ask? For the past 7 years, Advantage Chevrolet has gathered 70+ business members to its dealership in Hodgkins to communicate the importance of shopping local and visiting the Little Village business corridor. In an effort to drive individuals to our commercial district, we are cognizant that we too need to visit other communities! This year, Director Malcolm Weems from Central Management Services educated our attendees on State procurement processes.

MAY: Cinco de Mayo Festival
Our mission is to promote and support the growth and success of businesses in Little Village and to leverage the community’s unique cultural identity to generate new opportunities. For the past 17 years, the Little Village Chamber of Commerce has celebrated our Mexican heritage and pride via our Cinco de Mayo Festival at 26th Street and Kostner Avenue. La Batalla de Puebla marks the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War. To participate in next year’s festivities, please email us at info@littlevillagechamber.org

12th Annual Ambassador Scholarship Banquet
For the past 12 years, the Little Village Chamber of Commerce has empowered youth in Little Village and its surrounding areas (Pilsen, Back of the Yards) with scholarships for higher education. This year, we received 53 applications. Teachers from Farragut High School served as our Selection Committee. Thank you State Farm, Advantage Chevrolet, Hoy, AT&T, Gift of Hope, Coca-Cola, Mi Tierra, Los Comales, El Milagro, American Family Insurance and Tropical Optical for making our banquet at Lobo De Mar in Cicero a true success this year. Ten students were awarded scholarships for careers in medicine, social work and legal arenas.

JUNE: 19th Annual Classic Golf Fiesta Mexicana
Our golf outing successfully unites corporate and local partners every year. This past June, 107 golfers came together at Carriage Greens Country Club to experience our Classic Golf Fiesta Mexicana golf outing. Event sponsors that helped make the outing a fun kick-off to summer 2013: Tristan & Cervantes Attorneys at Law (Presenting Sponsor), La Guadalupana (Breakfast Sponsor), Compass Associates, LLC (Taquiza Sponsor). Join us next year as we celebrate 20 years of golf in the Little Village community!

Mariachi Sundays at Manuel Perez Jr. Memorial Plaza
With the help of Alderman Muñoz and CDOT, our Special Service Area #25 Commissioners activated the Manuel Perez Jr. Memorial Plaza this summer by hosting Mariachi music on Sundays for Little Village community residents to enjoy. Every Sunday this past June, Mariachi Tapatio entertained over 150+ residents with their superb talent. Activating the Plaza is imperative to our work as it is our duty to drive individuals to our business corridor. Join us in July and August for more of Mariachi Tapatio and shop and dine in Little Village this summer!

La Catedral Café & Restaurant – Outside Café Opening
In our continued efforts to spur pedestrian traffic along 25th Street, Special Service Area #25 Commissioners supported La Catedral Café & Restaurant’s (La Catedral) outside café initiative. Kindly make your way to La Catedral and eat al fresco this summer. La Catedral’s paninis and Café Angelical are Little Village Chamber of Commerce favorites!

Little Village CARE Collaborative
Our participation in the City of Chicago’s and Cook County’s Community Anti-Violence Restoration Effort has helped the Little Village Chamber of Commerce Special Service Area #25 execute both its missions. The plan, aimed at making Chicago the safest big City by 2020, has been a crucial component to our shop local campaign. Strong local economies make neighborhoods safer. Youth participating in the program have helped us beautify our corridor with murals, constant graffiti removal and consistent business visits.
